Our Mission: Founded in 1883, The Vermont Cynic's mission is to serve the University of Vermont and the Burlington community as an independent student voice that strives to be an outlet for news and to promote the exchange of ideas and information. By facilitating communication, The Cynic hopes to stimulate social growth. Through unbiased reporting, dedication to fact and unwavering integrity, The Cynic works to be a progressive newspaper that does not rely on external approval but internal motivation.

Established in 1883, The Vermont Cynic is the weekly student-run newspaper for the University of Vermont. An integral part of the Burlington publishing community, The Cynic boasts a circulation of 6,000 copies on-campus and reaching numerous off-campus locations. The newspaper – both editorial and business operations – are run exclusively by students.

Our staff works in a variety of disciplines, including advertising, writing, photography, editing, web design, and social media.

Be sure to find us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. You'll receive updates on breaking news and stories from our most recent issue.
