According to a press release sent out by Students Stand Up (SSU), the activist group is calling for the resignation of UVM President Daniel Mark Fogel, as well as modifying their list of demands.

According to the press release, Fogel ordered the arrest of 33 students in lieu of meeting with them to discuss and negotiate demands previously issued by SSU.

“Due to President Fogel's disturbing and callous response to us, the students, we are issuing a call for his immediate resignation,” the press release stated.

The press release also detailed the reduction of their list of demands.

"These adjusted demands reflect the core concerns that are the base of our campaign and our new understanding of what is feasible," the press release stated.

The list now includes four points, down from the original 13, which include:

1. Revoke all dismissals and non-reappointments thus far issued.

2. Terminate all plans for more layoffs and non-reappointments of faculty.

3. Establish a democratic process whereby students, staff and faculty have decisive roles in decisions regarding the budget.

4. Reduce administrative compensation pool to save as many positions as possible.
The administration has yet to comment.

Hey Alfred, why do you hate UVM students so much?

SSU should concentrate on the really important stuff like making sure the naked bike ride is safe for participants. I call for all SSU members to drop out of UVM.

Interesting. I must applaud your ability to wake up in the morning with that kind of defeatist attitude. As far as the demands go, it is my understanding that the administration has begun responding to some of them, so SSU no longer feels the need to include them in the list. However, the administration is still ignoring many of the core elements of the campaign, so SSU decided to be more reasonable with the administration and ask only for the core components of the demands, i.e. saving jobs and cutting bloated administrative pay checks. I don't know if you read Richard Cate's latest email, but I think it shows exactly how much power students do have. It can't be pure coincidence that Cate issues a message concerning a turn around on certain budget reconciliation efforts a day after students took the office and demanded change. No leg to stand on? How about the support of thousands of UVM community members? I hope to see you actively organizing in support of the cuts and layoffs to prove through more than an online forum that SSU is powerless.
